How do I change or update account passwords?

Overview

Please refer to this page for assistance changing the passwords associated with your service. Be sure to choose strong passwords!

Account Center contacts

  1. Log into your Account Center.
  2. Click on Contacts at the top.
  3. Click the Edit button for the desired contact.
  4. Scroll down and click on Change Password.
  5. Enter your current password, then your new password twice. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  6. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Save at the very bottom of the page. If Save is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  7. Click Save to finish.

Server Administrator FTP/SSH user

  1. Log into your Account Center.
  2. Choose your primary domain.
  3. Click on Server Admin Password & SSH.
  4. Click on Change Password.
  5. Type in the new password in the New Password and Confirm Password sections. Be sure to use a strong password.  Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  6. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Save at the very bottom of the page. If Save is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  7. Click Save to finish.

Plesk administrator

  1. Log into your Account Center.
  2. Click on the primary domain.
  3. Click on Change Plesk Password.
  4. Type in the new password in the New Password and Confirm New Password sections. Be sure to use a strong password. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  5. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Change Password at the very bottom of the page. If Change Password is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  6. Click Change Password to finish.

Email/Additional FTP users

  1. Log into your Account Center.
  2. Choose your primary domain.
  3. Click on Add/Edit Users.
  4. Click on the Edit button for the user whose password you wish to change.
  5. Click the Change Password button.
  6. This will expand the password menu. Type in the new password in the Password and Re-enter Password sections. Be sure to use a strong password. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  7. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Save at the very bottom of the page. If Save is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  8. Click Update User to finish.

Email users

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on the Mail tab.
  3. Click on the email user for which you want to change the password.
  4. Enter your new password twice.
  5. Click OK and you're done.

Changing your email password may sever the communication between your email client (i.e. Apple Mail, Outlook, etc.) and the mail server. If you change the password, you must also update your email client's configuration with the new password.

FTP users

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on Websites & Domains.
  3. Next, click on FTP Access.
  4. Click on the FTP user for which you want to change the password.
  5. Enter your new password twice.
  6. Click OK and you're done.

Root user

  1. Log into your Account Center and select your server from the Domains drop-down menu. Alternately, from the Overview tab, click the Admin button to the right of your primary domain.
  2. Click on Root Access & Developer Tools.
  3. Click on Change Root Password.
  4. Click OK that you wish to change your root password at the warning prompt.
  5. Type in the new password in the New Password and Confirm New Password sections. Be sure to use a strong password. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  6. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Change Password at the very bottom of the page. If Change Password is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  7. Click on Change Password to finish.

Database users

  1. Log into your Account Center.
  2. Choose your primary domain.
  3. Click on Manage Databases.
  4. Click on User & Settings.
  5. Click Change Password for any user whose password you wish to change. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  6. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Update Password at the very bottom of the page. If Update Password is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  7. Click Update Password to finish.

  1. Log into the Plesk Control Panel for your domain.
  2. From the Home page, click on Websites & Domains.
  3. Click on Databases.
  4. Select the database.
  5. Users associated with your database will be listed.
  6. Click on the user.
  7. Enter your new password twice.
  8. Click OK and now you are done.

CAUTION:

If you update the password for an existing database user, you must update it in any files or applications that use the old password. If you're not sure how to do this, you may want to create a new database user for your current project. The new database user will have the format db00000_username.

Root user

  1. Log into your Account Center and select your server from the Domains drop-down menu. Alternately, from the Overview tab, click the Admin button to the right of your primary domain.
  2. Click on SSH Access & Root Password.
  3. Click on Change Root Password. This option will only be available if you have enabled root access. If you haven't enabled root access, you can do so via this menu. 
  4. Click OK that you wish to change your root password at the warning prompt.
  5. Type in the new password in the New Password and Confirm New Password sections. Be sure to use a strong password. Please be sure to meet all the password requirements on the right side. When a requirement is met, it will turn green.
  6. If all the requirements are green, then you can click Change Password at the very bottom of the page. If Change Password is NOT lit up, then double-check the password requirements to make sure they are all green.
  7. Click on Change Password to finish.
