The Premium Security Pack service is a new suite of comprehensive site security tools to help protect your website from the web's many threats. This suite includes the fllowing features:

  • Proactive Security Monitoring: CloudTech schedules automated server-side scans, with detailed reports available directly in your Account Center.
  • Alerting: Any malware incidents detected by CloudTech are immediately brought to your attention via support request. Detailed security scan results are available through a Security tool in the Account Center.
  • Security Cleanup: If your site is compromised, CloudTech experts can perform a cleanup similar to the On-Demand Malware Cleanup service.
  • Web-Application Firewall: A firewall, managed by SiteLock, which blocks malicious traffic from accessing your sites.

Requirements

Securing a domain with the Premium Security Pack requires DNS changes. For that reason, only domains with DNS zone files using nameservers can be configured for this service. Click here for more information about Media Temple's DNS and nameserver settings.

Furthermore, all A/CNAME records for your domain must be pointed to the service on which your site is hosted. If you are securing a parent domain (like ‘domain.com’), this is also true for the ‘www’ subdomain.

One Premium Security Pack covers configuration of up to 5 domains. All 5 domains have to resolve to the same server, i.e. the hosting service that was selected when purchasing the service.

Setup Instructions

When the Premium Security Pack is purchased, no domains are configured. Your 5 domains can be configured by following these steps:

  1. Click "Get Started Today" in the Security & CDN section of your AccountCenter's Overview page.

  2. This will take you to the Settings page, where you can start adding domains.

  3. After clicking Add Domain, the domain is added to the Front-end Security Scan service. To activate the Premium Security Pack, you can click on the “Activate WAF & CDN” button by each domain.

Activating will initiate DNS changes which may take up to 24 hours! If DNS is not being hosted at (mt) Media Temple or if the domain doesn’t resolve to the selected hosting service, you will receive an error message.

  4. All current DNS records for the activated domain are stored prior to any changes being made, and will be reverted if the Web Application Firewall and TrueSpeed CDN components are disabled. If your website has a valid SSL certificate, a TXT record will be added to your domain's zone file to verify ownership of the site. After that, DNS will be adjusted as follows:
    • If the domain is a parent domain (like ‘domain.com’):
      • Any current A records for ‘domain.com’ will be removed.
      • Any current A or CNAME records for ‘www.domain.com’ will be removed.
      • One or more A records pointing to the Web Application Firewall/Truespeed CDN will be added.
      • A CNAME record will be created for the ‘www’ subdomain, pointing to the Web Application Firewall/TrueSpeed CDN.
    • If the domain is a subdomain (like ‘secure.domain.com’):
      • All A and CNAME records for the domain will be removed
      • A CNAME record will be created for the domain, pointing to the Web Application Firewall/TrueSpeed CDN.
  5. Once the product is successfully activated, a support request will be created to let you know.

Domain Management

After successful activation, both the Web Application Firewall and TrueSpeed CDN will be ON. You will then have the following options for each domain:

  • Turn off caching by clicking on the ON/OFF toggle under CDN
  • Turn off the Web Application Firewall, if needed, to troubleshoot any changes made to your server (please note: DNS will still be routed through SiteLock)
  • Refresh the CDN cache

SSL Support

Premium Security Pack and TrueSpeed CDN are configured to work with sites that have a valid SSL certificate as well as sites that do not have an SSL certificate. No extra steps are needed to configure SSL support.

If your site's SSL is invalid (expired, for example), the site will be set as a site without any SSL certificate (please note: this may cause SSL protected pages to not function properly).

If you are adding an SSL certificate after you have successfully configured the Web Application Firewall and/or TrueSpeed CDN, you should deactivate these services, wait for the deactivation process to complete, then install your SSL certificate, then re-enable the Web Application Firewall and TrueSpeed CDN.
