Installing Managed Apps

Overview

The Media Temple suite of managed apps is designed help you install some of the most popular web based tools. The easy install process walks you through the initial setup—no experience required. Just select the application that you'd like to install and follow the instructions on the right side of the screen.

Instructions

  1. Sign into the Account Center.
  2. In the Overview page, click on the blue Admin button that associated to your Grid server gs_admin.png
    • For Grid Personal, Pro, and Elite:
      Look in the left-menu to find Sites, and select your desired domain.

    • After selecting your domain, locate for Site Tools box and select Managed Apps

    • For (gs) Grid Service, Grid Lite, and older:
      Under +Add Ons, select Managed Apps.

  3. Determine whether you'd like to manage your current application installs or add new. To install a new application, begin by clicking on the relevant tile.
  4. A new menu will appear to the right with several several fields for you to fill out. These fields will vary depending on the app that you select. For this example, we'll install WordPress.
    • Leaving the Installation Directory blank will install the Managed App into the root directory /html. If you insert something like folder1, then it will install into /html/folder1
    • WordPress' two factor authentication option will significantly increase the security of your site. Use it whenever possible.

      NOTE:
      Make sure the domain name on the two dropdown menus match exactly! Otherwise you might end up accidentally overriding the data on a different domain:

  5. Once you click install, you'll be redirected to the Apps management page. The installation process may take a minute or two depending on the app. You'll be redirected to the Installs page once the install completes.
  6. That's it! The app is now installed on your Grid server and ready for use. As always, please feel free to contact Media Temple's award winning 24/7 support team with any additional questions.

Troubleshooting

    If you run into issues when trying to install a Managed App, try checking the following!
    1. Check that the folder you are trying to install your app to is completely empty. Sometimes if there are are files inside that can disrupt the process.

    2. Try changing the password you're using for your Managed App to something that is stronger. Below are some strong password requirements we recommend:

    3. Check the domain’s DNS. If the domain is pointed elsewhere there could be an application install at the third-party host that could be interfering with the install.
