The following article contains information on renewing domain registrations. If you require information on registering a new domain, feel free to review the article below.
So long as the payment information on the account is up to date, (mt) Media Temple domains are set for auto-renewal and do not require any action. A renewal email will be sent to the Account Owner's primary email to provide notice for the upcoming renewal:
It is recommended you review your payment information to ensure that no interruptions of your services occur. To confirm payment information is up to date, navigate to the Billing section of your (mt) Media Temple account. You may also feel free to contact Support by opening a support request, starting a chat, or by calling us at 1.310.841.5500.
If a domain does not renew successfully, it will expire. During expiration, various domain issues will occur all at once (website down, emailing not working, DNS does not propagate, etc).
A WHOIS search can be run as an attempt to check if your domain is expired. However, as WHOIS can take time to update, it's best to contact Support directly.
An expired domain will enter a "hold" status. Domains in a hold status can be renewed at the standard renewal fee.
If you find a domain is in a hold status and wish to renew, please contact Support directly to ensure the renewal is processed as quickly as possible. The grace period for a hold status is generally 1-18 days past the expiration date. Leaving an expired domain in hold status can subject it to go into "redemption".
If an expired domain is not renewed in a prompt manner, it will enter "redemption" at the Registry, and is placed into an auction. A domain is subject to redemption fees between 19-42 days past the expiration date. Should redemption occur, (mt) Media Temple is no longer able to guarantee a domain will be retrievable, as the domain has the potential to be auctioned at any point.
A WHOIS search can be run as an attempt to check if your domain is in redemption status. However, as WHOIS can take time to update, it's best to contact Support directly.
An attempt to remove the domain from redemption can be requested. A removal request requires your regular renewal cost, with an payment of $80.00 to retrieve the domain from redemption. (as an example: for a .COM domain that is $15 annually, this means it will be $15 + $80 for a total of $95.)
After submitting a request, the overall process may take 7-10 days for the domain to be taken out of redemption .
If you find a domain in redemption status and wish to renew, please contact (mt) Media Temple Support directly as soon as possible. A domain in redemption status does have the potential to be auctioned or released, causing you to lose your domain name to third-parties.
